Abstract

Abstract:
The first records of military Slovenian language appeared in the late 18th century. Over the next two centuries, the Slovenian military language experienced short periods of growth and extensive periods of decline The independence of the state of Slovenia and its army finally caused the development of professional Slovenian military language. The Croatian military language faces similar challenges. The military and sports activities were always inseparable. Many terms of both disciplines appear in in both fields, however, the use of military terms in new reporting (or commentaries) in not trivial. In the thesis I have focused on the presence of military terminology in contemporary Slovenian and Croatian sports commentaries. The sample for may analysis were journalistic comments (rtvslo.si and sport.hrt.hr) of matches played at the European Football Championship (France, 2016). I found that the military terms appear in the comments of both languages, though unexpectedly their number is not very large. Commonly used terms are not many, the rest are scattered and are a matter of personal style.
