The purpose of the thesis is to present how pedagogical staff perceives the problems of divorce when it comes to working with children of divorced parents in grammar schools, in what manner they approach such children and what their reservations are. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I explain the modern changes in family life and explain the spread of this phenomenon, divorce, and I summarise divorce statistics in Slovenia. Following, I describe the role of schools in helping children at the event of their parents’ divorce, and the ways pedagogical workers help children in need. The attention in the thesis is also given to teachers' perspectives on children coming from separated families. The empirical part of the thesis consists of a quantitative research, the aim of which was to recognise the challenges pedagogical staff faces while working with children, who deal with their parents' divorce. On the basis of an analysis of the results, I have established that pedagogical staff offers children help when it comes to school, emotional and behaviour issues. While working with children of divorced parents, pedagogical workers face obstacles while cooperating with parents and children. They also deal with the lack of professional qualification in this field.
