The diploma thesis defines the role and the significance of the school and the teacher in recognition and reduction of violence among peers in school. In the theoretical part all the steps are presented which could significantly influence reduction of violence. Identification of the violence and sensitivity of the teacher for the problems of violence among the pupils as well as other employees is the first step. An appropriate response and taking measures in case of violence among peers follows. The significance of preventive action of the school and the teacher, who can contribute to building good interpersonal relationships by her example and with various activities and thus to preventing violence among pupils, is presented too.
The purpose of the empirical part was to research by means of partially structured interview if the elementary school teachers recognize the violence among pupils, how the handling of violent acts takes place, and how and by which activities the preventive action on the level of school and class takes place. The results show that the teachers recognize violence, realize it, appropriately take measures and act preventively. They notice the emergence of physical, psychological and verbal violence which is mostly connected with unsettled family circumstances. They do not mention bigger problems in handling violence among the pupils. However, they wish more support from the parents of the problematic children. They perform several activities which contribute to reduction and preventing the violence among the pupils. The performed activities (role plays, social plays, conversations) are efficient, for they notice the reduction of certain forms of violence, better climate in school, and pupils learn constructive solving the conflicts. The teachers attributed their role in preventing and reduction of the violence a great significance. They believe that above all it is necessary to act in the field of interpersonal relations concerning the pupils, promote tolerance, respect for diversity, to attribute a special significance to building friendly ties among the classmates, and to promote interpersonal cooperation.
