In this diploma thesis I presented the key features of the participation of children in the educational process. I analyzed documents of preschool education to see if participation is mentioned anywhere and reviewed the legal basis of participation in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. I focused on active learning and active citizenship through which children's participation is realized in the modern pedagogical concept of Reggio Emilia. Furthermore, I studied the project based approach and solving open-ended problems as strategies to promote participation. I overviewed researches about views of teachers in the Slovenian kindergartens about children's participation. In the theoretical part of thesis, I emphasized the importance of social learning and cooperation in project work. In the empirical part of the thesis I presented and evaluated the project: making of theater play ‘Room on the broom?’ as an example of solving open-ended problems. The project has involved 19 preschool children aged 56 years. In conclusion of my thesis I have confirmed that the project provided lots of opportunities for children to participate, which is evident from the activities and the evaluation of the project. I also noted that dramatization had positive impact on social relations, cooperation and coordination between children themselves.
