Abstract

Title:Literary magazines and newspapers for preschool children
Abstract:
From the initial development of the literary magazines and newspapers in the mid-19th century until today there had been numerous changes. We will try to present these changes in this diploma thesis. The changes are seen in the contents and in the design of the newspapers. Today, literary magazines and newspapers for children are very popular and we find them almost anywhere – we can buy them at the news-stands, in stores, bookstores etc. Parents and children can choose among different magazines, there is a wide selection; the contents are diverse and appropriate for children of different ages. In Slovene history there are only a few of these magazines for children. The first newspapers and magazines targeted the youngsters and not so much the preschool children. In the theoretical part of the thesis we will revise what is defined as literature for children and what is literature for young adults, which texts are defined as children and which as young adults literature and we will present the literary magazines and newspapers for children from their beginnings in 1848 to 2016. In the empirical part of the thesis we will focus on each of the magazines and compare the contents of the magazines and the newspapers. We will check the contents in the past and see how they have changed though time. We are particularly interested to see whether the contents are literary or non-literary, authorial or folk, educational and instructive or fun; whether they are illustrated or have pictures or illustrational elements and who were the editors and the authors of the texts and number of pages in individual magazines and the number of articles.
