Abstract

Title:
Attitude of teenagers towards biology
Abstract:
ROSE project is a comprehensive study in which students' attitudes towards Science and Technology affected by many factors have been examined. In our study, only some aspects have been focused due to a narrower field of biology which has been interested in, and the direction of the attitude between Biology to elementary school students has been checked. The purpose of the master's work has been to determine the attitude of the teenagers to Biology as science and Biology as a school subject, how demanding the students find the subject of Biology and what is their opinion of the Biology teaching. The connection of the students in the classroom and the factors of a great importance for the students in choosing a profession have also been examined. A total of 351 students from three elementary schools (8th and 9th grade) and students from one high school (1st and 2nd year) have taken part. Data have been collected in the 87-statement-questionnaire and assessed by respondents with the Likert scale. A positive attitude to Biology of primary and secondary schools students and their awareness of the importance of Biology and not finding Biology in school difficult have been found out. A difference between elementary and high school students of different ages in relation to Biology, to the complexity of Biology and the importance of Biology has been shown. A difference between girls and boys in relation to Biology and the view of the importance of Biology have been shown while a difference in the complexity of Biology has not been shown. Factors relevant to future careers, the attitude towards Biology, the opinion of the complexity of Biology and the importance of Biology are linked.
