Abstract

Title:A thermometer for the water temperature measurement in the oceanography
Abstract:
Temperature is one of the most basic physical quantities and plays a very important role both in everyday life, as well as in the origin, evolution and existence of life on Earth. Oceans cover 71% of the surface of our planet, and with an average depth of 3.8 km form the largest habitat in volume on Earth. Accurate temperature measurement of water has a very important role, especially nowadays, when studying climate change and global warming are very current topics and because there is still a lack of quality and traceable ocean temperature measurements. Therefore, this study focuses on the design and development of thermometer for measuring the temperature of water in oceanography. The develop thermometer is then tested in temperature range between 0 ° C and 40 ° C and under a pressure of up to 150 bar. The main part of this work is also dedicated to the methodology for selection of the right kind of commercial temperature sensor, and its adaptation for the measurement of temperature in water. It also focuses on the integration of the entire measurement system using microcontroller, and finally testing of its properties in an accredited laboratory. The developed thermometer is based on a new generation of silicon bandgap temperature sensor, which is low in cost. This proved to be an excellent choice, because of its above average performance in its price range, and because of the simplicity of integration into the measuring system.
