Vpliv izkustvenega učenja na znanje dijakov srednje strokovne šole o volkovih

Abstract
Pojmovanje učenja in poučevanja v šoli se je skozi zgodovino spreminjalo in prilagajalo potrebam tistih, ki so v središču teh dveh aktivnosti, t.j. učencem. Vloge učenca in učitelja v razredu so se spremenile. Učitelj je prešel iz prenašalca znanja v mentorja, usmerjevalca in organizatorja učnega okolja, ki učencu omogoča aktivno sodelovanje in vključenost pri izgradnji lastnega znanja. V povezavi s tem pojmovanjem učenja in poučevanja številni avtorji poudarjajo pomen izkušnje pri izgradnji znanja oziroma pomen izkustvenega učenja. V okviru magistrskega dela smo, v prvem delu empirične raziskave, raziskovali, kako izkušnje iz vsakdanjega življenja oziroma okolja, v katerem dijaki živijo (lovec v družini, reja drobnice in območje bivanja) vplivajo na znanje dijakov in dijakinj srednje strokovne šole o biologiji volka. Izvedli smo tudi delavnico, ki je temeljila na principih izkustvenega učenja in preverili njen vpliv na znanje dijakov o biologiji volka. Analizirali smo znanje, ki so ga dijaki izkazali na preizkusu znanja pred delavnico in na preizkusu znanja po delavnici. Ugotovili smo, da dijaki ne izkazujejo razlik v znanju biologije volka glede na to, ali imajo v družini lovca, gojijo doma drobnico ali glede na območje bivanja. So pa dijaki na preizkusu znanja po delavnici izkazali boljše znanje o biologiji volka kot na preizkusu znanja pred delavnico. Izsledki naše raziskave naj spodbudijo učitelje biologije in naravoslovja, da pri pouku uporabljajo konkretne učne materiale (materiale iz trajnih zbirk ali spoznavanje živih živali) in učencem omogočijo izkušnjo, ki jim bo zagotovila boljše razumevanje in trajnejše znanje. Znanje je nenazadnje tudi pomemben dejavnik, ki vpliva na izoblikovanje stališč do določene tematike, na primer do ohranitve populacije volka v okolju.

Title:The effect of experiential learning on vocational high school students’ knowledge about wolves
Abstract:
The perception of learning and teaching at school has changed throughout history and adapted to those who are the core of those activities, i.e. students. The roles of the student and the teacher have changed as well. At first the conveyor of knowledge, the teacher has turned into a mentor, guide and organiser of the learning environment so as to enable active participation and involvement in the process of building knowledge. In this respect, many authors are pointing to the significance of experiential learning, i.e. experience in building knowledge. The first part of the empirical research explores how experience from students’ everyday life and their living environment (a hunter in the family, sheep farming, home environment) impacts vocational college students’ knowledge of wolf biology. We organised a workshop based on the principles of experiential learning and assessed its influence on the students’ knowledge of wolf biology. Their knowledge was analysed on the basis of a test before and after the workshop. Our findings indicate that a hunter in the family, sheep farming at home and the home environment do not impact the knowledge of wolf biology. However, the students performed better at the test after the workshop than before the workshop. The research findings should encourage biology and natural science teachers to include concrete materials in their lessons (materials from permanent collections or handling live animals) to provide their students with experience that will improve their understanding and provide in-depth knowledge of the topic. It should be noted that knowledge is an important factor in developing viewpoints on a certain issue, e.g. preserving natural wolf populations.
