The following thesis first presents the concept and the development of Industry 4.0. The next section outlines the importance of the Internet of Things in the modern industry and the role it plays in the upcoming industrial revolution named Industry 4.0. Furthermore, we focus on the importance of smart sensors for production process control and the use of machine vision in the industry.
For the empirical part of the thesis we developed a Tetra Pak tape regulator for packaging material, using a combination of a smart camera and Arduino UNO development board. The functionalities of the smart camera, its user interface and integrability with the existing production process are presented, along with all the neccessary building blocks that enable smooth operation of the tape regulator.
After familiarizing with all the neccessary building blocks, we implemented an automatic Tetra Pak tape regulator for Tetra Pak packaging on a filling machine. The smart camera detects the position of Tetra Pak tape on packaging. In the case of improper position of the Tetra Pak tape, the camera sends the information to Arduino circuit, which controls the steper motor and adjusts the position of Tetra Pak tape according to camera readings. We also built an FTP server, used to record all improper positionings of Tetra Pak tape.
