Abstract

Abstract:
This diploma thesis describes the process of creating newspapers, which is used in professional publishing houses. It follows the process from editing the photographs and designing advertisements, to typesetting the final form of the newspaper. Firstly, the payable software, which photographers, journalists and designers are using in the professional world, is described. The thesis familiarizes the reader with the basic functions of each software that are crucial for the making of the final product. Secondly, free, open source software is indicated and described, which could replace the payable software. The most important functions, that the software must contain, are also shown. Lastly, the major differences are given on the basis of the comparison of the vital functions between the payable and the free software.
