The main object of the study in this thesis is identifying the commonest mistakes in the basic swimming techniques after a 20-hour swimming course in the first cycle of the primary school.
In our swimming learning system we document the number of swimmers and non-swimmers and titles acquired to eight-scale ranking (Slovenian scale for assessing swimming skills), but we do not document the correctness of performed swimming technique. Consequently we do not have information about the commonest mistakes after a 20-hour swimming course in the first cycle of the primary school.
We observed the final test of 20-hour swimming course and document mistakes in swimming techniques of 3rd grade students. For observation were used pre-prepared observation sheets.
The results of the research have shown, that after a 20-hour swimming course in third grade of elementary school, schoolkids had the least mistakes in breaststroke. More mistakes were detected at backstroke and front crawl.
The commonest mistakes detected at breaststroke were: wrong stroke, kick and coordination problems.
Mistakes in head position and breathing, wrong stroke and kick were the commonest mistakes in front crawl swimming.
In backstroke the most mistakes were detected in kicking, strokes and base body position.
The results have shown that swimming instructors must focus on the correct realization of swimming techniques and consequently swimming skills of schoolkids will improve.
