Promoting energy efficiency and saving as well as development of new and renewable
energy sources are among the main goals of the EU energy policy. The energy renovation of
Elementary School Fara in 2013 was done according to the principles and with the financial
aid of this policy. The renovation comprised thickening of the heat insulation, replacing
windows and a reconstruction of the boiler room including installation of a biomass boiler
running on wood chips and pellets.
The analysis includes a comparison of energy efficiency calculations done with computer
software programmes TEDI, TOST and Gradbena Fizika URSA 4 before and after the
renovation as well as a comparison of the computer calculations with the actual data on the
use of energy in 2014. The thesis also includes cost analysis of the investment and
recommendations on cost-efficient actions that should be taken to further improve energy
efficiency of the building in the future.
The results have shown that the computer data calculated with the use of different software
programmes vary very little while the difference between the computer data and the actual
data is more substantial. The analysis shows that the financial effects of the higher energy
efficiency as well as the cheaper energy source will be quite large, which means that the
energy renovation of the building has been successful.
