Abstract
Pred 252 milijoni let je prišlo do izumrtja več kot 90 odstotkov živalskih in rastlinskih vrst. To se je verjetno zgodilo zaradi globalnega tektonskega dogajanja, ki je povzročilo zelo močan vulkanizem na območju tako imenovanih Sibirskih poplavnih bazaltov (ang. %Siberian Traps%), ta pa niz drugih sprememb, ki so vplivale na okolje, floro in favno. Namen raziskav je ugotavljanje globalnih sprememb in povezovanje z lokalnimi razmerami v plasteh zgornje permske in spodnje triasne starosti. Diplomska naloga temelji na analizi profila z območja Košutnikovega potoka v Južnih Karavankah. Profilu obsega kamnine dolomitnega razvoja zgornjepermskih kamnin in spodnjetriasne klastične kamnine. Z rentgensko fluorescenco (XRF) smo določili variabilnosti posameznih izbranih elementov v času odlaganja terigene sedimentne sekvence ob koncu perma in na začetku triasa. Zelo podobni vzorci so pri vsebnostih naslednjih elementov: silicija, aluminija, kalija in titana, kar lahko povezujemo s povečanim vnosom terigene snovi, ki je s kopnega prešla v morsko sedimentacijsko okolje. Vsem vzorcem omenjenega profila smo natančno določili barvo po Munsellu. Razlike v odtenkih so posledica diagenetskih sprememb, ki vplivajo tako na geokemično kakor tudi na mineralno sestavo kamnin. Rdečkast odtenek daje mineral hematit. Kvalitativno in kvantitativno smo obravnavali mineralno sestavo vseh plasti (v skupni debelini štirih metrov), in sicer, s pomočjo rentgenske praškovne difrakcije (XRD). Zaznali smo mineral kalcit, dolomit, kremen, muskovit ter v manjši meri kalijeve glinence, manganov oksid, hematit in pirit. Slednja dva železova minerala kažeta na oksična in anoksična okolja na prehodu iz perma v trias. Tako pridobljeni rezultati bodo uporabni za nadaljnje raziskave podobnih sekvenc na območju Južnih Karavank (Brsnina) in tudi drugod po Sloveniji (Idrijca, Masore, Skopačnik%) ter za primerjavo, ki do sedaj tako podrobno še ni bila narejena.

Title:geochemical and mineralogical characterization of Permo-Triassic boundary profile in Košutnik creek section - Southern Karavanke
Abstract:
Permian-Triassic mass extinction event took place about 252Ma ago and caused extinction of more than 90% of fauna and flora. Probable triggers were global tectonic events that caused a very strong volcanism in the Siberian Traps area, which in turn has led to a series of other changes that had an impact on the environment, and thus also on the flora and fauna. The thesis comprises fieldwork on the profile Košutnik creek section in the Southern Karavanke. On our profile there are upper Permian gray dolomites and lower Triassic colorful clastic rocks. With X-ray fluorescence (XRF) we determined the variability of individual elements selected at the time of disposal terrigenous sedimentary sequence at the end of the Permian and beginning of Trias. Similar trends showed up in content of silica, aluminum, potassium and titanium, which we can link with increase input of terrigenous material from land to marine sedimentary environment. We've defined exact colors after Munsell for all samples in that profile. Differences in hue are result of digenetic changes that have an influence on both elemental as well as mineral composition of rocks. Hematite gives us reddish hue. By analyzing the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), we determined both qualitative as well as quantitative mineral for four meters of our profile. Minerals that occur are: calcite, dolomite, quartz, muscovite, and minor levels of potassium feldspar, manganese oxide, hematite and pyrite. The results obtained will be useful for further research of similar sequences in the southern Karavanke (Brsnina) and elsewhere in Slovenia (Idrijca, Masore, Skopačnik...) as well as the correlation of these profiles with each other, as far as detail has not yet been done. The purpose of this research is linking global changes to local trends in layers of upper Permian and lower Triassic age.
