Abstract

Title:
Ames' room
Abstract:
The Diploma thesis contains a description of an optical illusion named Ames room which was built in 1946 by Adelbert Ames Jr. If a person walks along the back wall of the room his apparent size will change. Theoretical background of the effect is based on the perceived distance of the object. First section of the thesis presents how a person perceives a three-dimensional space and visual depth. The theory is later discussed focusing on Ames room. The last section of the thesis presents the construction of a small model of Ames room, its dimensions and the final product itself.
