Abstract
Žita predstavljajo v prehrani človeka hrano, ki je pomemben vir ogljikovih hidratov, beljakovin, vitaminov in elementov, ki jih potrebujemo za zdravo rast in razvoj. V diplomskem delu smo pozornost namenili poznavanju žit med osnovnošolci. Ugotavljali smo, kako osnovnošolci poznajo različna žita glede na starost in tip okolja, v katerem živijo. Poleg teh dveh spremenljivk smo med seboj primerjali še odgovore glede na spol. V raziskavo je bilo vključenih 240 osnovnošolcev 6. in 9. razreda. Podatke smo zbirali z anketnim vprašalnikom. Iz rezultatov empiričnega dela sklepamo, da osnovnošolci od naštetih žit slabo poznajo sirek, ščir in kvinojo. Pšenica, riž, koruza, ajda, ječmen, oves, pira, rž in proso so med osnovnošolci dobro poznana in tudi pogosta v njihovi prehrani. Poznajo hranilno sestavo žita in jih razumejo kot pomemben del vsakodnevne prehrane. Osnovnošolci urbanega okolja so bolj naklonjeni pokušanju različnih vrst žit v primerjavi z osnovnošolci iz ruralnih okolij. Pomembno je, da bi osnovnošolci tako v šoli kot doma večkrat uživali zdravo hrano, med katero zagotovo spadajo tudi žita ter izdelki iz njih. Za ustrezno vključevanje žit in žitnih izdelkov v prehrano je potrebno poznati njihovo sestavo in kakovost, zato je pomembno, da bi osnovnošolci pri pouku usvojili ustrezna znanja, ki bi jim omogočala, da ustrezno načrtujejo tudi svojo prehrano.

Title:Knowledge of cereals among primary school students
Abstract:
In human diet cereals represent an important source of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and elements, which are needed for healthy growth and development. This thesis is thus focused on knowledge of cereals among primary school students. We were assessing the knowledge of different cereals among primary school students based on their age and type of environment they live in. Beside these two variables, we took into consideration also their gender. 240 primary school students from sixth and ninth grade were included in this research. The data was acquired by questionnaire. The results of the empirical part are showing that the students are less familiar with sorghum, amaranth, and quinoa, which were among listed cereals. Wheat, rice, maize, buckwheat, barley, oat, spelt, rye, and white millet are well known among students and also very often in their diet. They are familiar with the nutritional composition of cereals and are aware that cereals play an important role in our daily diet. Primary school students from urban area are more inclined to try different kinds of cereals then the ones from rural area. It is important for students to consume healthy food at home as in school more often, which includes cereals and its products. For proper incorporation of cereals and its products in our diet we need to know their composition and quality, that is why it is important for students to acquire the proper knowledge, which can help them to plan their diet accordingly.
