Diploma paper is dealing with current status of Islamic community as a religious minority in Slovenia. On a theoretical level, it presents basic religious concepts of Islam and it offers overview of his historical presence in Europe and Slovenia. Further, describes current functioning of the community and emphasizes the issue of satisfying religious needs of Muslim people, such as: lack of Islamic religious objects, inaccessibility of halal food, difficulties with celebrating religious holidays and performing daily prayers… These disadvantages put Islamic community in discriminatory situation.
Empirical data proves some statistically significant differences in discrimination between Muslim and non-Muslim people. Muslim people are less satisfied with their possibilities in fulfilling religious needs than non-Muslims. Muslim people are also more often victims of non-direct discrimination, especially in the fields of religion, education and employment relations. Many authors and participants agree that media significantly contribute to expansion of stereotypes and prejudices about Islamic community.
