When I was in a preschool I found out that many children were using their dialects while speaking; therefore I decided to do a research on the Use of dialects in preschools of the Slovene Littoral. I wanted to research the speech of children in other preschools in the Littoral and determine, if the dialects were being used in other preschools as well.
In the theoretical part of the thesis I presented the speech, speech development, encouragement of speech, language, language features, roles or functions of the Slovene language (mother tongue, second language or language of the environment, foreign language, language of education, learning subject, national, official language, one of the official languages of the European Union, the Slovene language as a means of communication and the subject of discovering), social genres of the Slovene language, literary and colloquial language, dialects in Slovenia, reasons for dialects, Littoral dialect and the use of literary language and dialects in preschools.
For the empirical part of the thesis I prepared a questionnaire because I wanted to know how often and in what situations the teachers and the children use their dialects, and whether if and how the teachers encourage the use of the literary language with children.
