Children’s literature is a hypernym or umbrella term for two fields: firstly, literary texts for children (up to
12) and secondly texts for young people (from 12 to 18) – the ages here being more of an informative nature.
The field of children’s literature is part of polysystems such as society, culture, language and literature; it has
functions that are complementary and dependent on other systems, e.g. Slovene literature, comparative literature,
translation studies, library studies and similar fields.
