Abstract

Title:Same / Different
Abstract:
The exhibition of sculpture ambiences entitled Same/Different demonstrates a regular feature found in the creativity of the sculptor Roman Makše as well as the newly set delineations from these regular features, for each of his installations is created with the space in which it is going to be exhibited in mind. The visual characteristic of this exhibition can be found in the circular drifting of the view across the setting that is enabled and defined by the gallery space. The sculpture-exhibition ambiences follow the structure of the exhibition space: a round ground plan in which a larger circle engulfs a smaller central circle. The drift of one against the other defines the tripartiteness of the whole that follows the logics of observing – kinesthetic reading – the sculpture as a whole. The tripartiteness is also indicated by the positioning of the individual elements: a view from the inside (bases with elements), the overhead view (when the observer steps into the exhibition object) and the view downwards (where rimmed plates are placed on the floor). As regards the contents the artist uses such positioning to create a critical attitude towards the new, towards changes and development, all of which lead to the basic question: where does or can a new man happen.
