In this diploma thesis we represented the topic of children with special needs in the selected works of Slovenian children's literature. In the first chapter we defined in detail the concept of children's literature, children's prose and storybooks by theories from Dragica Haramija, Marjan Kobe and Igor Saksida. The second part covers the theory of children with special needs. We looked how the Slovenian legislation defines children with special needs, what kind of education they have and which accommodations they need.
In the empirical part we were discovering how the Slovenian authors incorporate the problematic subject matter of children with special needs into the children's literature and which works are pleasant to readers with special needs. We analyzed in great detail a selection of nine children's literature works and searched for the theme of children with special needs, acceptance of children in schools, regular and special, acceptance by the society and their effect on a young reader. In the conclusion we compared the selected works.
