The theoretical section of this diploma thesis describes artistic material according to its origin and areas of artistic creation where it is used. Focus is put on division of artistic material into traditional and unconventional – such as recycled material. Classic forms of recycling in artistic areas are also described.
I present 7 artists that inspired me with alternative material usage in their artworks when I was planning workshops on recycling art and unconventional material use for fourth graders.
In the empirical section of this diploma thesis, three art workshops are described. They were performed for ten-year-old children at their weekly scout meetings. I observed and described their reactions to experimentation during artistic work, motivation dynamics, skills of creating with alternative materials and the function of final products.
Through analysis of art workshops and product evaluation, I reached some conclusions.
