Abstract
Raziskali smo izbrane lastnosti lesa octovca (Rhus typhina L.), ki bi utegnile predvideti njegovo uporabo. Proučevali smo makro- in mikroskopsko anatomsko zgradbo, izbrane fizikalne lastnosti (radialno porazdelitev gostote in vlažnosti, krčenja in nabrekanja, kazalnike dimenzijske stabilnosti) ter nekatere mehanske lastnosti (modul elastičnosti, tlačno, upogibno in strižno trdnost).

Title:Structure, properties and potential use of staghorn sumac wood : B. Sc. thesis
Abstract:
We investigated selected properties of staghorn sumac wood (Rhus typhina L.) which might provide its usage. We researched the anatomical structure and macroscopic features, some physical properties (radial distribution of moisture content and density, shrinkage and swelling, dimensional stability) as well as some mechanical properties (MOE, compressive, bending and shear strength). The survey shows that staghorn sumac wood belongs to the ring-porous deciduous trees. The density of the oven dry wood is 514 kg/m3. Moisture content of fresh wood is approximately 58.2 %. Shrinkage and swelling is small, also because of low MC at fibre saturation point, which is 19.3 %. Indicators of dimension stability are favourable, with the exceptions of sorption quotient being normal and anisotropy being unfavourable. Comparison with lime and chestnut wood shows that staghorn sumac wood is suitable for small, non-structural elements, because of its low bending strength (47-68 MPa) and low modulus of elasticity (5.3 GPa).
