Abstract

Title:Extracambial growth of cells in the dicotyledon xylem
Abstract:
Extracambial changes in cell dimensions occur during the differentiation and maturation. Mechanisms of gliding, symplastic and intrusion or interpositional growth of fibers is explained. The ratio between imperforate tracheary element length and vessel element length (` F/V ratio "J represents a feature which i.s partly related to the mayor trends of xylem evolutions. The effects of the intrusive elongation on the wood structure is described

Keywords:wood, dicotyledons, extracambial growth, fibers, intrusive elongation, evolution
