Life without wood-based panels would nowadays be difficult to imagine because they are important for furniture and construction usage. Particleboard structure was researched to establish the effect on its hardness, regarding the influence of individual layer density. 3 particleboards with different share of layers were produced. Vertical density distribution, hardness, bending strength, hard body impact resistance and thickness swelling were determined. After the determination of the density profile the results showed that the density of an individual layer influenced the hardness, while thickness swelling was not influenced by surface and/or core layer density. It was found out that the board with the same share of surface and core layer had the best properties.
