Svetlana Makarovič is one of the most representative Slovene youth authors. She has introduced numerous innovations into Slovene youth literature: original imaginative space (Kosovirja), original perspective (a non-anthropocentric view of the world), original construction (the postmodern text Potepuh in nočna lučka), subversive style (the use of original curses, problematic themes, zoomorphism and anthropomorphism), linguistic originality (na čomop), original denominations (človekarji; kosovirja, mba, ščeper), the characterisation of individuals (Kazimir, Nedamir, Baroness Tintengern, Temrazbov, Žabotka), social criticism for children (Leva in desna roka) and redefinition (the use of familiar elements in a new content). A further characteristic of the authorʼs work is writing for two groups of readers: the text is aimed at children, while the context is addressed to adult readers.
