The main idea of democracy lies in the principle that average citizen should be at least to a certain extent familiar with the activities of his/her country and should have control over these activities. The preliminary condition for more active participation is good information on government and politics in general. Here, the media have an important role since the political informing cannot be imagined without them. However, a form and content of political informing if being dispersed, incomplete, incorrectly chosen and misleading, may represent a danger for democracy. It could be argued that in modern society democracy cannot exist without mass media. Without them, an average citizen would not know what is going on outside the American borders or what should his/her opinion regarding American foreign policy be. He/she would also not know much about governmental policies in USA or about candidates for particular public functions. In this sense, the development of mass media in USA (newspapers, radio, television, computer entering almost every household) contributed to democracy of American society.
