The use of passenger cars is still on the rise in Slovenia. We need to realise that the high usage of personal transportation causes high costs due to higher emissions. Nevertheless, numerous empty public transportation vehicles impact our enviroment even more so. Therefore, we need to strive to decrease the number of passengers who use personal transportation and increase the number of passengers who use public transportation. In order to reverse the trend and thus increase the number of public transportation users, we need to think on how to increase mobility and capacity of the public transportation system without excess interference in the existing infrastructure. Ministry of Infrastructure of Republic of Slovenia has been working on introducing an integrated public transportation system. Their goal was to make sure that the necessary preconditions are available in order to introduce a single travel ticket accross different modes of public transportation by the end of 2013. In addition, they wanted to harmonise train and bus schedules. Since it is already 2015 and this solution is still not available, this work will analyse and show where the underlying challenges lie that stand in the way of introducing a single public transportation card.
