The adequacy of SAP 2000 software for seismic-resistant design of steel frames was evaluated in the Thesis, which is divided in two parts. In the first part a brief summary of the Slovenian standard SIST EN 1998-1:2004 (Eurocode 8) for design of structures for earthquake resistance is presented, whereas the second part deals with the description of algorithm for capacity design of steel frames, which is implemented in the SAP 2000, and involves an illustrative example of design of two storey steel buildings according to Eurocode 8. Throughout the example building, which was analysed as 2D or 3D building, we demonstrated design process by using SAP 2000 and compared results with those provided by the "Priročnik za projektiranje gradbenih konstrukcij". From comparison we concluded that SAP 2000 is appropriate software for design of steel frames in earthquake prone regions since adequately treats most of capacity design principles prescribed in Eurocode 8
