The selection of construction materials is based on their many characteristics. Most manufacturers who offer these products publish their catalogs on the Internet in variety of forms. In addition to the wide dispersion of information through various websites of manufacturers, the format of data varies also. The purpose of the thesis is to improve the exchange of information, to improve its organization and its accessibility. Using Semantic Web Technologies all data can be put into a single database and is logically interlinked on a totally basic level. By using such database, searching through the previously endless amounts
of data becomes much easier. Anyone can add to the database which makes it grow and become more useful by the day. This achieves compatibility where it previously has not existed, because we do not have any catalouges in text, image, graphic, PDF or other file formats, instead only in RDF format. The first step of the thesis was to make a test case
database using Protégé, then it was transfered on to a web server and tested using SPARQL queries. We believe that larger database would prove to be very useful. In the end, we have created a simple and user-friendly web interface which enables people to carry out queries without knowing SPARQL language.
