Abstract

Abstract:
In today's modern society more and more individuals search for various types of alternative solutions also when it comes to improving and preserving one's health. This article begins with the presentation of the difference between the biopsychosocial and biomedical model of health and ways in which this difference is reflected in the relations between healthcare staff and patients, and relations of healthcare staff towards complementary methods of medical treatment. Due to the negative standpoint of the Slovene medical associations towards these types of methods, nurses could take up the role of mediators between official medicine and complementary methods of treatment. In the continuation, the results of the survey are presented. The sample counted 274 nurses, members of the Nurse Association of Ljubljana, who attended two symposia under the title of "Becoming Aware of Complementary and Natural Medicine also in Nursing Care".
