This article, marking the 70th anniversary of the journal Jezik in slovstvo, takes as its starting point Jure Šink’s 2005 article “West Slavic Literature in Secondary School Textbooks” (“Zahodnoslovanska književnost v srednješolskih berilih”). Twenty years after its publication, it re-examines the representation of Czech, Polish, and Slovak literature in four approved sets of grammar school readers used in Slovenian language classes. It also compares the revised curriculum for grammar schools (UNG 2025) with the previously valid one (UNG 2008), focusing on the presence of West Slavic literatures. The analysis shows that most texts from West Slavic literatures are included in the Branja textbook series, and that UNG 2025 introduces greater flexibility and a broader selection of reading materials within the framework of optional content: 14 works compared to eight in UNG 2008. The implementation of the new curriculum will be gradual and accompanied by the preparation of new teaching materials and additional teacher training.
