In the article “Teorija Praške šole o knjižnem jeziku” Alois Jedlička stated the positions of the members of the Prague linguistic circle about the modern Czech literary language, along with the basic methodology of studying and describing the literary language, and added his views on the issue, taking into account the question of the existence of dialectal versions of the literary language. It follows from the article that in the description of the modern literary language, i.e. the language of the mid-1960s, one must also include certain dialectal versions and elements which are often used in the spoken form of the literary language. The reason for this he sees in the increasingly important role of radio and television which cover the entire Czech-speaking area. He also points out the possibility of using new approaches in linguistics, especially the use of information theory and statistics when determining the actual state of the language norm. In this contribution, we will evaluate some conclusions and methodological proposals from Jedlička’s article from the point of view of the current state, use and function of the literary language and the factors that influence it today.
