In this article, I will deal with two essays by Jože Toporišič, namely the article published in Jezik in slovstvo titled "Razmišljanje o Finžgarjeva prozi" and the monographic book Pripovedna dela F. S: Finžgarja. Both point to the author's then very contemporary interest in structuralist and narratological views on literature. In the mid-1960s, the journal Jezik in slovstvo emphasized an editorial concept that was oriented towards contemporary literary and scientific dynamics, which was known mainly in the Western world. The argument for this claim is an article by Jože Toporišič, "Razmišljanje o Finžgarjeva prozi". In addition, it is necessary to note the already mentioned monograph, published by Slovenska matica. Both works by the man who was to become the most recognized Slovenian linguist were a very interesting enrichment of Slovenian literary dynamics. By this I do not mean only the author's structuralist analysis of the selected narrative corpus, but also his undeniable interest in the narrative aspects of literary works. Toporišič's monograph covered Finžgar's prose in a complex way, systematizing the analysed material on different levels, while at the same time evoking conclusions that explained the narrative procedures used and the function of the writer's stylistic decisions. However, it should be noted that Jože Toporišič remains vague and theoretically loose in some places in his narratological insight, especially with regard to lacking a clear distinction between the grammatical categories of the narrator and his field of reference, such as in the distinction between the ego and the omniscient narrator.
