This diploma thesis analyses the Slovene translation of neologisms in “The Last Wish” by Andrzej Sapkowski, translated into Slovene by Klemen Pisk, in comparison to the Polish original. The goal is to see whether the same processes of forming neologisms were used in Slovene and how faithful to the original is the translation. In the theoretical part, I first define word formation and describe the processes of forming new lexemes both in Slovene and in Polish since these processes are used to form neologisms. I then define the term “neologism” itself. At the end I describe Newmark’s translation theory with the focus being on translating neologisms. In the practical part, I first analyse the word formation process used for 15 neologisms from The Last Wish. I only analysed those that first appear in the Polish original, disregarding the lexemes that are an existing part of Polish mythology but had to be translated as neologisms into Slovene. I simultaneously analyse each neologism and its Slovene counterpart one by one, comparing the two. At the end of the practical part, I analyse all 15 neologisms and their translations as a whole in order to see which word formation processes were used most often in both languages.
