This thesis addresses the conceptual design of a bypass road for the village of Šentrupert. The regional road R3-750, which also carries freight and transit traffic, leads into the village centre, an area designated as cultural heritage. The aim of the thesis is to design a bypass road that would remove this traffic from the village core. Three alternative routes were prepared and elaborated at the level of a preliminary design. Prior to the design, the existing situation was analysed: the road network and accessibility, traffic volumes and traffic composition, road safety, public utility infrastructure, terrain characteristics, hydrological conditions, cultural heritage, and the designated and actual land use. The routes were prepared on geodetic and cartographic bases using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, while the geometric elements were determined in accordance with the Rules on road design and the technical specifications for roads. For all three alternatives, the horizontal alignment, the vertical alignment, the cross section, the pavement structure and the drainage concept were determined. The alternatives were then evaluated and compared from the spatial and development point of view, in terms of the impact on the living environment, and from the traffic-technical, construction-technical and investment points of view. The comparison showed that alternative 1, which runs along the western side of the settlement, is the most suitable: it is the shortest, has the most favourable geometric elements, has the least impact on the living environment, and is the most favourable in terms of investment. Alternative 1 is therefore proposed as the most appropriate solution. As the thesis is prepared at the level of a preliminary design, the quantities and investment values are estimated approximately and need to be determined more precisely in the subsequent design phases.
