The master’s thesis focuses on the study of osseous artefacts from Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods in Slovenia. The first part includes history of research and a detailed analysis of taphonomic processes that left traces on such objects. In the second part, I focus on the inventory of sites where osseous artefacts were discovered as well as examine the technology of their manufacture. The theoretical framework is supported by empirical results obtained from experimental archaeology. In conclusion, a consistent and comprehensive typological description of various types of osseous artefacts is provided. This catalogue is the result of a meticulous analysis of various pieces and their characteristics, represents a significant leap toward understanding the context of these artefacts. Moreover, this typology can serve as a guide for future research in the field, not only within Slovenia but also across other regions and archaeological periods. The conclusion highlights key findings that contribute to a better comprehension of osseous artefacts from the Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods. This work paves the way for further exploration and an in–depth understanding of our ancestors and their utilisation of materials and technologies.
