The year 1927 can be considered the beginning of modern Chinese music, as it was then that the first pop song was written. Its author is also known as the father of modern Chinese music, Li Jinhui. At a time when China was experiencing social and economic backwardness, he used his music to connect with the Chinese people and advocated for the modernization of Chinese music through the incorporation of foreign elements. Shanghai played a significant role in the development of modern music, as it was considered a modern city teeming with foreign investors in the music industry. Thus began the gradual modernization of Chinese music, into which traditional Chinese elements were later incorporated in the 1990s. Since 1992, we have seen the implementation of Chinese jingju opera in Chinese popular music, and other elements such as singing and instruments have also been introduced. The aim of this thesis is therefore to identify which traditional elements are present in contemporary Chinese music in the People's Republic of China and to analyze and define them based on the content of the songs themselves.
