This master's thesis examines and analyses the complete poetic oeuvre published to date by Katja Gorečan: Angeli istega porekla (2007), Trpljenje mlade Hane (2012), Neke noči neke deklice nekje umirajo (2018), and Materinska knjižica (2022). Thesis seeks to define the concept of contemporary Slovenian poetry, a term that remains open to multiple interpretations, and to identify the predominant aesthetic trends of contemporary Slovenian poetry as reflected in Gorečan's autopoetics. Given the recent emergence of the hybrid poem –a form influenced by American models – thesis defines new genre categories, specifically dramatic long poem and lyric novel. The conclusion confirms that while certain aesthetic features are shared by a number of contemporary Slovenian poets, individual authors simultaneously develop distinctive aesthetic strategies. Contemporary Slovenian poetry can therefore be understood as a field characterised by the coexistence of diverse authorial voices and poetics.
