Prispevek podvodne arheologije k poznavanju trgovine s kamnom v antičnem Sredozemlju

Diplomska naloga obravnava logistiko in obseg antične pomorske trgovine s kamnom. Poudarek je na interpretaciji podatkov, ki jih ponujajo podvodna arheološka najdišča. Delo predstavlja glavna kamnolomska središča, njihovo organizacijo in upravljanje ter pomorski prevoz kamnin. Skozi analizo treh odmevnih sredozemskih podvodnih najdišč naloga ilustrira značilnosti pomorskega transporta kamna v rimskem in poznoantičnem času. Podvodni arheološki konteksti nam namreč ponujajo ključen, materialen dokaz za razumevanje kompleksnosti antične trgovine s kamnom.

• Title: The contribution of underwater archaeology to the knowledge of stone trade in the ancient Mediterranean

Abstract

This thesis examines the organization, and scale of the ancient maritime stone trade, with a particular emphasis on interpreting data provided by underwater archaeological sites. The work presents the main quarrying canters alongside their organization and management and maritime shipping of stone. Through the analysis of three prominent Mediterranean shipwreck sites, the thesis illustrates the characteristics of stone transport during the Roman and Late Antique periods. Ultimately, underwater archaeological contexts offer crucial, physical evidence for understanding the complexity of the ancient stone trade.
