Opus sectile z Muzejskega trga v Celju

Diplomska naloga obravnava kamnite, pretežno marmorne odlomke ploščic in profiliranih robov, odkritih med arheološkim izkopavanjem na Muzejskem trgu v Celju, ki je potekalo med letoma 2016 in 2018. Raziskava temelji na obdelavi 204 kamnitih kosov. Glavni namen naloge je bil določiti vrste uporabljenih dekorativnih kamnin ter opredeliti njihovo prvotno namembnost in obliko. Identifikacija kamnin je bila opravljena na podlagi makroskopske analize in primerjave z referenčno literaturo, pri čemer zaradi odsotnosti petrografskih in drugih arheometričnih analiz njihovega izvora ni bilo mogoče zanesljivo določiti. Rezultati kažejo, da med kosi izrazito prevladujejo beli marmorji s sivimi lisami in žilami ter beli marmorji, v manjšem številu pa so zastopani tudi drugi barvni marmorji ter nekaj kamnin lokalnega izvora. Večina fragmentov pripada elementom stenske ali talne obloge v tehniki opus sectile, medtem ko sta dva kosa opredeljena kot arhitekturna elementa in sta verjetno tvorila prag, nastopno ploščo stopnice ali podoben element. Analiza je pokazala tudi prisotnost profiliranih robov, različnih načinov pritrjevanja ter sledov obdelave. Vsi kosi so bili odkriti v sekundarni legi, zato njihove prvotne umestitve in čas uporabe ni bilo mogoče zanesljivo določiti.

Abstract

The thesis deals with stone, predominantly marble fragments of tiles and profiled elements, discovered during archaeological excavations at Museum Square (Muzejski trg) in Celje, which took place between 2016 and 2018. The research is based on the analysis of 204 stone pieces. The main aim of the thesis was to identify the types of decorative stones used and to determine their original function and form. The identification of the stones was carried out through macroscopic analysis and comparison with reference literature. Due to the absence of petrographic and other archaeometric analyses, it was not possible to reliably determine their origin. The results show that among the pieces, white marbles with grey spots and veins clearly predominate, along with plain white marbles, while other coloured marbles and a small number of locally sourced stones are represented in smaller quantities. Most pieces belong to opus sectile elements, while two pieces are identified as architectural elements. The analysis also revealed the presence of profiled edges, different ways of attachment, and traces of processing. All pieces were recovered from secondary stratigraphic contexts, making it impossible to determine their original placement or period of use with certainty.
