Abstract

Title:Exposure of a MAN TGS 18.500 forestry truck driver to noise and whole-body vibrations
Abstract:
This thesis examines whole-body vibration (WBV) and noise exposure of a forestry truck driver, as well as the effect of the load's mass and its distance from the crane on the intensity of vibrations. Measurements were conducted when using a MAN TGS 18.500 forestry truck, where 6 days were spent determining work composition, WBV and noise exposure, during which the values were compared to permissible limits, and one day was spent assessing factors on vibration strength. The results showed that vibration exposure, based on the RMS indicator for an average eight-hour workday, exceeded the limit value in the X direction (RMS X = 1,51 m/s2), while according to the VDV indicator, the limit was exceeded in the Y direction (VDV Y = 44,08 m/s1,75). Noise exposure during an average eight-hour working day, based on the LAeq indicator (80,4 dB(A)), exceeded the lower exposure action value on two days, while the LCpeak indicator exceeded the limit value (141,8 dB(C)). The driver exposure to WBV and noise is highest during loading, unloading, empty driving on gravel roads and vehicle shifts during loading. The effect of log volume on vibration intensity was not consistent, as vibration intensity increased significantly with log volume in the Y direction at distances of 4 and 6 m from the loading device, while in the Z direction it decreased significantly at a distance of 6 m. The distance of the logs from the loading device had a more pronounced effect on vibration intensity, with statistically significant differences between distances in the X and Z directions. Vibration intensity at 2 m was significantly lower than at 4 and 6 m, whereas no statistically significant differences were found in the Y direction. To prevent occupational diseases and reduce exposure to noise and vibration, particular attention should be paid to the most demanding work operations and to the arrangement of logs during timber extraction, loading and unloading. Logs should be positioned as close to the loader as possible, particularly those with a large volume.
