Abstract

Title:Amish community in the USA
Abstract:
This thesis examines the Amish community in the United States, focusing on its historical development, organization, spatial distribution, way of life, and the experiences of individuals who have left the community. The aim of the study was to provide a comprehensive overview of the Amish way of life and to analyse the reasons for leaving the community, as well as the challenges faced by former Amish members. The research is based on a review of academic literature, statistical data, and a qualitative content analysis of publicly available interviews, podcasts, documentary films, and scientific studies. The findings show that the Amish preserve their identity primarily through religion, strong family ties, community organization, and adherence to the Ordnung. At the same time, they remain one of the fastest-growing religious communities in North America. The analysis of former members testimonies indicates that leaving the Amish community is usually a gradual process shaped by a combination of personal, religious, and social factors. The study also confirms that the Amish way of life significantly influences the cultural landscape and settlement patterns of the United States and demonstrates that the Amish community is far more diverse and complex than it is often portrayed in stereotypes and popular media.
