This bachelor's thesis examines the development and specific features of electric
ferries in Scandinavia. The research showed that electric ferries significantly reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, noise levels, and maintenance costs
compared to conventional diesel ferries. The findings indicate that Norway is the
leading country in the electrification of maritime transport, while other Scandinavian
countries have also made significant progress in this field. Despite their many
advantages, the wider adoption of electric ferries is limited by high initial investment
costs, limited battery range, and the need for adequate charging infrastructure. Electric
ferries represent an important step toward sustainable maritime transport, particularly
on shorter routes.
