Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) enables the production of large metal components; however, product quality is limited by geometric deviations during deposition. This thesis investigates vertical electrode adjustment using the Automatic Voltage Control function (AVC), as well as the detection and correction of resulting defects. An experimental system was developed for acquiring and processing data required to monitor the geometry of individual deposited layers and detect defects during the WAAM process. Based on experimental measurements, the arc voltage characteristic was determined, and the AVC response was analysed for different geometries and gain levels. Under the investigated conditions, a gain level of 60 was found to be the most suitable. By processing welding arc voltage and electrode path data, the profile of each deposited layer could be reconstructed, allowing geometric deviations to be detected and corrected by additional deposition. The results confirm the feasibility of using arc voltage for real-time monitoring of deposited layer geometry and increasing the level of automation in the WAAM process.
