Abstract

Title:Ecology of weed species of genus Ambrosia and their control in agriculture
Abstract:
The genus Ambrosia represents one of the most harmful taxa in agriculture, as the species of this genus are highly adaptable, competitive and have a rapid reproduction method. The purpose of the diploma thesis was to review the biological and ecological characteristics of the most important species of the genus Ambrosia and to evaluate the possibilities of their control in agriculture. Based on a review of scientific and professional literature, we studied the distribution, ecological requirements and impact of ragweed on crops and plantations and compared mechanical, chemical and biotic control methods and cultural methods with which we can control the genus Ambrosia. We found that common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) represents the biggest problem among the species of the studied genus, namely in broad-leaved crops, while the occurrence of other species of the genus is gradually increasing, which means an additional risk to agricultural production. Individual control methods have proven to be partially effective, especially due to the long-lasting seed bank and adaptability of plants. An integrated approach that combines agrotechnical measures, appropriate use of herbicides and sustainable methods has the greatest potential. In conclusion, it can be concluded that the complete elimination of ragweed is not realistic, but with coordinated and timely action, its spread and damage to agriculture can be significantly reduced.
