Abstract

Title:The Implicit Premises of Love: A Taxidermized Word and a Flayed Body
Abstract:
The thesis examines the phenomenon of love through the relationship between two forms of expression – words and the body. Through an initial dialogue between philosophy and poetry, I demonstrate that the expression of love is not exhausted by either one alone but must be thought of in their intertwining. The abolition of the logic of the limit through the procedure of annihilation leads me to develop the concepts for the – direct, firsthand – expression of love: the bodily as a ‘taxidermized word’ and the verbal as a ‘flayed body’. The former denotes the stabilization and damming of the rapid and temporally dispersed flow of words in the form of a singular corporeal act, while the latter denotes the dissolution of the corporeal limit and the establishing of a relational field between two subjects through speech. In this way, it becomes apparent that the statement ‘I love you’ occupies a special, liminal position, one that cannot be reduced to the specifics of either the verbal or the bodily registers of expression. The work concludes with the conception of love as an ontological act that, starting from a coincidental encounter, establishes a new temporality and viewpoint of the world, whereby the expression of love is not a secondary phenomenon but a constitutive condition of its existence. In this sense, love proves to be not merely the object of philosophical reflection, but its very point of departure, that is, a thinking from the perspective of difference, from which alone the possibility of philosophy itself can emerge.
