Environmental quality has a significant impact on people’s lives and satisfaction, which makes its monitoring at the local level important. This thesis examines residents’ satisfaction with environmental protection factors in the Municipality of Postojna.
Three hypotheses were formulated. The first hypothesis assumes that the majority of residents are generally satisfied with the environment in the Municipality of Postojna. The second hypothesis assumes that residents are more satisfied with water quality than with environmental noise pollution. The third hypothesis examines whether there are differences in residents’ satisfaction with environmental protection factors according to demographic characteristics.
In the theoretical part, the methods of literature analysis and synthesis as well as the descriptive method were used. In the research part, a quantitative research method was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire completed by 121 residents of the Municipality of Postojna. The results were analysed using descriptive statistics and statistical tests to test the hypotheses. The findings show that the first hypothesis was confirmed, as the majority of residents are generally satisfied with the environment in the Municipality of Postojna. The second hypothesis was also confirmed, as respondents expressed higher satisfaction with water quality than with environmental noise pollution. For the third hypothesis, the analysis showed differences in satisfaction with air quality between the two age groups, but no differences according to gender or level of education.
The findings provide insight into residents’ satisfaction with environmental protection factors in the Municipality of Postojna and represent a useful basis for developing and improving environmental protection measures at the local level. They may also contribute to the development of policies and measures at the national level, particularly in areas where residents expressed lower levels of satisfaction.
