This thesis addreses the field of storage and transport of flammable substances, with an emphasis on transportation, logistics, accident prevention and measures to ensure the safe handling of hazardous substances. Due to their physical and chemical properties, flammable substances pose a significant risk of fires, explosions and other hazardous incidents, therefore their proper storage, transport and handling are crucial for protecting people, animals and the enviroment. The first part presents flammable and other hazardous substances, their basic characteristics, and classification. The second part addresses the legislation and regulations governing the transport and storage of hazardous substances. The third part presents the storage of flammable substances, including types of storage facilities, requirements for their arrangement, fire safety, and packaging. The fourth part deals with the transport of flammable substances by road, rail, sea and air, as well as the related safety measures, labeling, equipment, and driver training. The final part presents two accidents involving the storage and transport of flammable substances.
It was determined that to reduce risks and the consequences of accidents, it is necessary to strictly comply with regulations, use appropriate equipment and ensure the competence of all participants. The paper also presents two accident cases, analyzing the causes of each incident. It was also found that, despite strict adherence to traffic safety rules, the possibility of an accident still exists, however, appropriate preventive measures can significantly reduce their consequences.
