Nutrices, Matres in Matronae so bila materinska božanstva v množinski obliki, ki so epigrafsko in ikonografsko dobro izpričana po provincah rimskega imperija. Božanstva so povezovali z materinstvom, plodnostjo, zdravjem, varnostjo, zaščito otrok in skrbjo za skupnost. Medtem ko je bil kult boginj Nutrices možno potrditi le v agru Petovione, so bile Matres in Matronae razširjene predvsem na območju severozahodne Evrope. Pomemben del njihovega čaščenja so predstavljali votivni spomeniki in svetišča, pri čemer je danes potrjenih več kompleksov.

Abstract

Nutrices, Matres, and Matronae were plural maternal deities that are well attested epigraphically and iconographically throughout the provinces of the Roman Empire. The deities were associated with motherhood, fertility, health, safety, protection of children, and care for the community. While the cult of Nutrices could only be confirmed in the ager of Poetovio, Matres and Matronae were widespread primarily in the area of northeastern Europe. Votive monuments and sanctuaries played an important role in their worship, with several complexes to date confirmed.
