Abstract

Title:Climate Change and Adaptation Practices at the Vogel Ski Resort
Abstract:
This thesis examines the impacts of climate change on the Vogel ski resort and the adaptation practices used by the resort management. The aim of the research was to analyse climatic conditions at Vogel, investigate changes in the stability of winter seasons, and evaluate the perception of climate change among ski resort managers. The study is based on meteorological data from the Vogel climatological station for the period 1982–2021 and on interview methods. The analysis included temperature data, snow cover conditions, characteristic temperature days, and conditions suitable for artificial snowmaking. The results indicate a warming trend and a decrease in the number of cold days, ice days, and cold nights. Snow conditions are becoming increasingly unstable, while variability between winter seasons is also intensifying. Although the overall amount of snow remains relatively constant, the growing unpredictability of winter seasons and the later onset of snow cover represent major challenges for the ski resort. The analysis also revealed limited possibilities for artificial snowmaking due to insufficiently suitable temperature conditions and limited water availability. Nevertheless, because of its high-altitude location, Vogel still maintains relatively favourable conditions for winter tourism.
